LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshman shooter Sarah Broeker has been named the Kentucky rifle team shooter of the week, UK rifle head coach Harry Mullins announced Wednesday.
?Sarah has really been pushing herself hard all year, especially this week,? Mullins said. ?The entire team has been working really hard, yet I feel that the one that has been standing out in my head right now is Sarah. She has really worked hard and has really learned a lot about herself.?
Broeker, a native of Lincoln, Neb., posted solid scores in her fist collegiate match on Oct. 7 at Ohio State, tallying a 188 prone smallbore score and finishing with the third highest air rifle score on the team, 582.
Kentucky hits to the road for a weekend tilt in Lincoln, Neb., with Nebraska and the defending NCAA Champion Alaska Fairbanks. The match will provide Broeker some additional motivation as the freshman travels to her hometown to compete for the first time.
?Her focus this week has been very high and her motivation to excel this weekend has been through the roof,? Mullins detailed. ?Maybe that is because she is going home to compete in her hometown, but regardless, I have been very pleased with her effort and dedication and I feel like she is going to have a solid weekend.?
