Nzenwa Among Nation?s Leaders in Two Categories
Junior middle blocker Queen Nzenwa (Baltimore, Md.) is among the nation?s leaders in both blocks and hitting percentage, according to the NCAA statistics, released Tuesday evening.
Nzenwa leads the Southeastern Conference in both blocks (1.59 per game) and hitting percentage (.411), ranking ninth nationally in blocks and 11th in the country in hitting percentage.
Her hitting efficiency is on pace to be one of the best in school history in a single season. Lisa Bokovoy holds the school?s single-season hitting percentage mark, with a .389 clip in 1987. Nzenwa hit .341 last season, which ranks sixth all-time on the school?s single-season attack percentage list.
Nzenwa Nearing Career Block Assists Record
In addition to her success on the national level this season, Nzenwa is close to breaking Kentucky?s career block assists record. She now has 383 career block assists and needs 18 more to claim sole possession of the school record. Lisa Bokovoy (1985-88) holds the current school record with 400 career block assists.
Last season, Nzenwa set UK?s single-season block assists mark with 137 block assists in 2006. She already has 120 this season and needs 18 more to eclipse her previous record. With 18 block assists, she will set both the career and single-season school records simultaneously.
