The Kentucky women?s soccer team (6-2-2, 0-2-0) looks to collect their first win in SEC play this weekend as the team travels to No. 20 South Carolina (8-3-0, 0-2-0) and No. 25 Florida (4-4-2, 0-2-0) in the SEC Game of the Week.
The Wildcats are on the final leg of their longest road-swing since the 2004 season. Kentucky?s five-game swing started on Sept. 23 with a 0-0 tie at Louisville, followed by last weekend?s trip to Alabama. So far the Cats are winless on the trip posting a 0-2-1 record.
Kentucky owns a 10-2-0 all-time mark against South Carolina and is 5-1 at Eugene Stone IIIStadium in Columbia. The Wildcats have won three in a row against the Gamecocks including last year?s 1-0 victory in Lexington.
?This will be a great match Friday night since both teams will be looking to get their first points in league play,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?South Carolina is a dangerous team. They?ve had some positive results against some really tough competition this season, including a win over North Carolina earlier this year.?
Kentucky is 2-12-2 all-time against Florida which includes a 0-5-1 mark in Gainesville at James G. Pressley Stadium. The Wildcats were 1-0-1 last season against the perennial power Gators, registering a 0-0 tie in Lexington following a 2-1 victory in the SECTournament Championship game.
The Wildcats match against the Gators is scheduled for a live broadcast as part of SEC-TV on Fox Sports Net. UK met with a lot of success last season in television matches posting a 2-0-1 record. The Wildcats tied the Gators on the SUN Network followed by UK?s 1-0 victory over Vanderbilt which was televised on FSN. Finally UK?s 2-1 victory over the Gators in the SEC Tournament Championship was also televised on FSN.
?It?s always exciting to be involved in a television match, so the kids can display their hard work and talents to the country,? said Lipka. ?And to have an opportunity to display them against a team of Florida?s caliber is just as exciting. They have long been the measuring stick for women?s soccer in this conference.?
Kickoff at South Carolina is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and live stats will be available at UKathletics.com. The Wildcats and Gators are scheduled for a noon kick on Sunday, to be televised on FSN.
