LEXINGTON, Ky.–The University of Kentucky women?s golf team travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play in its second tournament in a week beginning Friday. Kentucky will appear with 15 teams ranked among the nation?s top-50 in an 18 team field.
The Lady Tar Heel Invitational is played on the UNC Finley Golf Course, a par 72 course with a total distance of 6,285 yards. The field includes: #7 Auburn, College of Charleston, #2 Duke, #20 East Carolina, #28 Florida State, #11 Georgia, #33 Kentucky, #26 North Carolina, #34 NC State, #8 Oklahoma State, #29 South Carolina, #12 Tennessee, #14 Texas, #40 Texas A&M, Tulsa, #16 Vanderbilt, Virginia and #18 Wake Forest.
The tournament is 54 holes over three days, playing 18 each day. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. off of holes No. 1 and 10 both Friday and Saturday. Sunday players will tee off at 9:15 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Kentucky is fresh off a fourth place showing in their lone home event of the season, the Lady Wildcat Fall Invitational. The tournament was dominated by SEC schools, as the top-five consisted of Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi State.
The Wildcats are rated No. 33 in the latest Golfweek rankings. This is the third consecutive week Kentucky has been listed among the nation?s top teams.
Junior Mallory Blackwelder leads the individual play for the Wildcats. The Versailles, Ky., native has finished in the top-10 in each of the team?s tournaments this fall. She began the season with a ninth-place-under-par effort at the Mason Rudolph Invitational, and then notched a tie for sixth this weekend at the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
Joining Blackwelder in the lineup in North Carolina are sophomore Erica Still, freshmen Paige Lausier and Louise Ljungstedt and senior Elizabeth Dotson. Lausier will make her first appearance in the starting lineup after playing as an individual at the Wildcat Fall Invitational. Still, Ljungstedt and Dotson are all appearing in the starting lineup for the third consecutive tournament.
