Kentucky men?s basketball sophomore Michael Porter suffered a concussion Monday during workouts. He hopes to be full speed when practice begins on October 12.
Porter was diving for a loose ball when the injury occurred.
?Michael was giving effort that we like to see,? head coach Billy Gillispie said. ?It was unfortunate he suffered an injury in the process. We?ll monitor his progress and hope to have him, along with some other guys who are recovering from injuries, in time for Big Blue Madness.?
The Modesto, Calif. Native played in 29 games for the Wildcats last season averaging 1.5 points per game.
Porter joins three other Wildcats on the injury list this off-season. Senior Joe Crawford underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in late September. Junior Jared Carter required surgery in early June after reinjuring his right shoulder, and sophomore Derrick Jasper underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee in June. All three have been limited in their conditioning work, but are expected to be cleared in time for practice on October 12.
Kentucky begins full-squad practice for the 2007-08 season on Friday, Oct. 12 with Big Blue Madness, which is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. at Rupp Arena.
