LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky right-handed pitcher Scott Green has been named the eighth-best prospect in college baseball, as ranked by Baseball America.
Green, a 6-foot-8, 245-pound right hander, battled injury issues throughout his first three years on the UK campus. As a highly touted freshman in 2005, Green stepped into the UK rotation and worked in 18 games, accumulating a 4.85 ERA in 42 2/3 innings. After sitting out the 2006 SEC Championship season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Green returned to the UK staff for a limited role in 2007. The Louisville, Ky., native worked in nine games for UK last season, tossing 17 2/3 innings and accumulating a 3.06 ERA.
Green?s breakout opportunity came this summer in the prestigious Cape Cod League, where the Male HS graduate dominated the best college hitters in the top summer baseball league in the country. Green accumulated a 3-1 record and an amazing 1.56 ERA in 40 1/3 innings of work, striking out 35 and allowing just seven earned runs. Green, who was drafted in the 15th-round by the Boston Red Sox, turned down substantial professional baseball overtures to return to school.
Following his summer in the Cape, Green was named as the sixth best prospect in the Cape Cod League by Baseball America.
