The Kentucky men?s golf team finished tied for fifth at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind. The Wildcats posted a third-round score of 292 to bring their total to 885 (291-302-292) and climb nine spots on the final day to tie for fifth. Penn State took home the team title with a three-round total of 862 (292-284-286).
Michigan?s Nick Pumford won medalist honors after finishing with a three-under par 210 (70-73-67).
Senior Cale Barr led the way for the Cats shooting an even par 71 in the final round to tie for fifth overall with a score of 215 (70-74-71). Junior Andy Winings turned in his second top-15 finish of the season. Winings carded a third-round 71 to bring his total to 217 (69-77-71) which tied him for 11th in the individual standings.
Junior Ben Fuqua was 47th overall with a three-day total of 227 (76-77-74), while senior Brad Doster finished 50th with a score of 228 (76-76-76). Sophomore Brian Belden rounded out the scoring for Kentucky with a total of 232 (81-75-76). Sophomore Derek Oldham played the tournament as an individual and finished with a score of 233 (78-74-81).
?We played two decent rounds and one very poor round which cost us so we finished tied for fifth,? said UK head coach Brian Craig. ?Certainly, this is a slightly better performance than last week. I?m so proud of cale and Andy who both had excellent tournaments and really led the way for us. We?re a work in progress, but we?ll get better.?
