The Kentucky men?s golf team returns to the links this weekend as it heads to Zionsville, Ind., for the second annual Wolf Run Intercollegiate. The Wildcats co-host the event with Indiana and took home the title last season after a playoff with Louisville. The event will be played at Wolf Run Golf Club, which is set up as a par 71 with a yardage of 7,195.

Wolf Run is as finely balanced and strategically sound as it is challenging, which has lead to several awards and praise from the golfing community. Wolf Run is currently occupying the #18 position in Golfweek’s America’s 100 Best Modern Courses.

The 15-team field includes UK, IU, Arkansas, Ball State, Denver, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, Northwestern, Penn State, Toledo, UNC-Greensboro and Virginia.

The event consists of three rounds, 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday. Tournament play begins Saturday with a shotgun first-round start at 9 a.m. EDT. The second 18 opens with a shotgun start following the completion of the opening round. On Sunday, the final round commences with an 8:30 a.m. start and teams teeing off from the 1st and 10th tees.

The Wildcats will send seniors Cale Barr and Brad Doster, juniors Andy Winings and Ben Fuqua and sophomore Brian Belden to the links this weekend. Sophomore Derek Oldham will also play but will compete as an individual. Winings turned in the best finish of his collegiate career with a second-place overall finish last season at this event. The Indiana native carded a three-round total of 216 to finish at one-over par and just two strokes behind UofL?s Derek Fathauer who won medalist honors with a score of 214.

“The Wolf Run Invitational is an event that we co-host with the University of Indiana on one of the most difficult courses we play all year,? said UK head coach Brian Craig. ?We are the defending champions and are looking forward to bouncing back from with a strong performance this week.”
