LEXINGTON, KY ? The Kentucky women?s soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to seven games with a 1-0 victory against the Morehead State Eagles (1-4-0) at the UK Soccer Complex Thursday night.
Alicia Browning got the Wildcats (6-0-1) on the board in the 40th minute when Callie Lanphier sent a crossing pass to Katie Fahey who flicked the ball off her head to Browning. The freshman from Ft. Wright, Ky. settled the ball and looped a shot over the head of Eagle goalie Leslie King for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Wildcat lead.
Despite the Kentucky victory, which gives the Wildcats? the longest unbeaten streak in the league this season, head coach Warren Lipka wasn?t pleased with his team?s outing for the second straight match.
?I thought we got outworked at times during the game especially on 50-50 balls, the air game and on hard tackles,? said Lipka. ?We got the result we wanted, but we need to solve the problems in our heart and in our head and play with more passion.?
The Wildcat defense flexed its muscle and helped freshman goalie Sydney Hiance record her first collegiate shutout, limiting Morehead State to just six shots and only one on goal.
Freshman Laura Novikoff led the Wildcats with four shots while she and Nicola Holdsworth shared top honors with three shots on goal each.
Kentucky is in action again on Sunday when they travel to the Derby City to take on rival Louisville. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Live stats will be available on UKathletics.com.
