Women's Soccer

After a week off from competition, the Kentucky women?s soccer team is poised to return to action as they take their five-game unbeaten streak on the road against the Marshall Thundering Herd.

UK owns a 3-0 all-time mark against Marshall, with their last meeting coming in 2005, a 3-1 victory by the Wildcats. This season marks the first time the two teams will play in Huntington, the first three matches having been played in Lexington.

The Wildcats are off to their best start since a 7-0-0 start to open the 2001 season and it?s been done by a combination of UK?s trademark defense and a recent offensive surge.

The Wildcats have allowed only three goals all season and have registered three shutouts thus far. That?s ahead of the pace set by last year?s squad which broke the school record for shutouts in a season with 14. Through five games in 2006, the Wildcats had posted only two shutouts.

Kentucky is one of two teams in the league (LSU)to have three players ranked in the Top 10 in goals scored. Laura Novikoff (1st, 4), Alicia Browning (5th, 3) and Callie Lanphier (5th, 3) are all ranked among the top scorers in the league. Novikoff leads the team in goals and shots (14) and is tied for the team lead with Lanphier with eight points. Browning is tied for second on the team with Lanphier with three goals scored.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and live stats will be available at UKathletics.com. The Wildcats return to home action on Thursday, Sept. 20 when they host Morehead State at the UK Soccer Complex.
