SAO PAULO, Brazil ? Sophomore Kentucky thrower Emily Bernhardt (Marietta, Ga.), a two-time FinishLine USA Junior Track and Field hammer throw champion, finished fourth in her event at the Pan Am Junior Athletics Championships Sunday morning with a toss of 173-1 at Sao Paulo Brazil.
Bernhardt, competing as a member of Team USA, fouled off her first two tosses before rebounding and posting a strong sixth and final throw. Brazil?s Marynna Karolyna S. de Jesus Dias captured the event with a toss of 197-8.
Bernhardt claimed her second consecutive US Junior Championship in late June with a winning throw of 175-11. Bernhardt had an impressive freshman campaign at UK, breaking her way onto the Cats? all-time top-10 lists in the hammer throw (outdoor) and weight throw (indoor).
