CINCINATTI — Former UK pitcher Brandon Webb has been added to the National League team for the 78th annual MLB All-Star game, to be played Tuesday at San Francisco?s AT&T Park. Webb, the 2006 NL Cy Young winner, replaces injured Colorado left-hander Brian Fuentes on the National League roster.

Webb, a native of Ashland, Ky., was named as Fuentes replacement because he drew the highest amount of player ballot votes (93) of any National League pitcher who was not already on the NL All-Star roster.

A lettermen at Kentucky from 1998-2000, Webb entered a start on Saturday evening in Cincinnati with a 8-6 record and a 3.27 ERA. Webb, the right-handed ace for the Arizona Diamondbacks, is tied for third in the league with 104 strikeouts.

In 2006, Webb?s first career All-Star selection became the first such honor for a former UK player in the program?s 103-year history.
