LEXINGTON, Ky. ? University of Kentucky setter Sarah Rumely has been selected to the 24-player roster for the 2007 U.S. Women?s Junior National Training Team, which will train May 18-20 in Austin, Texas. Within a week after the training session, the roster will be cut in half to 12 players who will represent the U.S. at the FIVB U-20 World Championships held July 19-27 in Nakhonratchasima, Thailand.
The 12-player U.S. Women?s Junior National Team will train in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Olympic Training Center approximately July 5-16 in preparation for the World Championships. Team USA qualified for the event by winning the 2006 NORCECA Continental Women?s Junior Championship in Monterey, Mexico. Prior to leaving for Thailand, the U.S. Women?s Junior National Team will train alongside and scrimmage members of the U.S. Women?s National Team who will not compete in the Pan American Games held July 14-19 in Brazil.
Rumely was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2006 after leading the Wildcats to their second straight NCAA Tournament berth where they claimed their first opening round win since the 1993 season. Rumely was a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection during her rookie campaign and was named to the Kentucky Classic All-Tournament Team. The New Palestine, Ind., native led the team and ranked third in the SEC with 12.40 assist and 0.45 service aces per game. Her 1,488 assists were the sixth-highest single season total by any Wildcat, while her 54 aces ranked her seventh on UK?s single-season chart.
Rumely recorded six aces in a pair of matches as a freshman and dished out a season-high 70 assists against San Diego State. She was one of only three players to start every match for the Wildcats and ranked second on the team with a .298 hitting percentage. Rumely also recorded 160 kills, 206 digs and 81 total blocks as a freshman.
The 2007 U.S. Women?s Junior National Training Team roster has seven carryovers from the 2006 NORCECA gold-medal winning team.
