LEXINGTON, Ky. — Seven-time Cy Young winner and newly acquired New York Yankee Roger Clemens spent Tuesday morning working at Kentucky?s Cliff Hagan Stadium, spending two hours talking with the team and throwing a bullpen session in front of the Wildcat players.

?What a great opportunity for our team to get a chance to spend some time with one of the greatest baseball players of all-time,? Kentucky head coach John Cohen said. ?Roger Clemens is a class guy, someone who really cares about the game and the young players involved. He spent some time talking to the team and answering questions. We were glad to have had the opportunity for our student-athletes to interact with such a tremendous, classy athlete.?

Clemens, who announced he was signing with the Yankees on Sunday afternoon, was in town to spend some time with his son Koby, an infielder for the Lexington Legends, a Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros.

?Anytime I have a chance to talk to the guys at the University of Kentucky is great,? Clemens said. ?Same thing when I?m at the University of Texas. Some great questions from the kids, and it?s really great that they relaxed. They asked some good, pointed questions. I appreciate the guys here making this available to me.?

Clemens arrived at Cliff Hagan Stadium, the home of the Wildcats, at about 9:30 a.m., spending about an hour visiting with the team in the dugout before taking to the mound for an initial workout. The 23-year Major League veteran threw several pitches from the mound, impressing the Wildcat players and staff.

?That was definitely an experience of a lifetime,? Coughlin said. ?To have arguably the greatest pitcher in baseball history come to speak and spend some time with us was an excellent opportunity. It was a good chance to learn from him directly, especially being able to work with him on signs and pitch locations. His stuff was real good. He mixed in all his pitches. His split-finger was just phenomenal. We are just very appreciative that he had the chance to spend some time with us.?

?What an unbelievable chance to spend some time with Roger Clemens,? Wildcat junior left-hander Andrew Albers said. ?It is not everyday that a Hall of Famer pitches in your ballpark and it?s not everyday you get to see the preparation that a player of that caliber puts into the game. He came to Cliff Hagan this morning and spent some time talking to the team. We were really excited that he would take time out of his busy schedule to visit with us and impart some knowledge about the game. He went over several things with the pitchers and was able to answer questions and provide some instruction to our club. It was an amazing opportunity to pick the brain of one of the best pitchers in baseball history. We just can?t thank him enough for being willing to visit with us today.?
