NASHVILLE, Tenn.?The University of Kentucky men?s tennis team dropped its final regular season match of the season on the road to Vanderbilt, 6-1, Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Bruno Agostinelli was the lone Wildcat to score today in his upset win of No. 46 Ryan Preston. The Wildcat opened the match with a 6-3 first set victory, and then Preston responded with a 6-1 second set win to force a tie-breaker. Agostinelli closed the match with a convincing 6-3 win to claim the victory.

No. 41 Vanderbilt began the match by taking the doubles point and then rolled to four straight singles wins to put the match out of reach.

The Commodores opened the doubles matches by taking the No. 3 match with an 8-6 score. Kentucky tied it up at No. 1 when Agostinelli and Kenny Hodge earned an 8-6 victory of their own over Vijay Paul and Ryan Preston. The match forced a tiebreaking score at No. 2, where junior Marcus Sundh and senior Peter Bjork fell 8-6 in another tight match.

In singles, Vanderbilt struck first with a win at No. 4. Hodge’s valiant effort at No. 5 fell short in the third set giving the home standing team their third point. The match was clinched in the No. 6 position.

Bjork and Sundh both fought hard through two sets before retiring.

Kentucky falls to 13-14 overall and 3-8 in the conference. They return to action in the SEC Championships hosted by Louisiana State beginning on Thursday.
