The Kentucky women?s soccer team played the Miami (OH) Redhawks to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday night at the UK Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats gave up their first goal of the spring when a Miami forward was fouled just outside the penalty box along the right flank. The Redhawks served the free kick into the box and crushed a header into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half.

Miami made it 2-0 just three minutes into the second half when a Redhawk forward knocked in a shot from 25 yards out. Kentucky clawed back with a goal 25 minutes into the second stanza when junior midfielder Sarah Gaunt found classmate Megan Jones in front of the Miami defense. Jones freed herself for a shot from 15 yards out, and beat the keeper to cut the Miami lead to 2-1.

The Cats drew even in the 86th minute when junior Callie Lanphier beat a Redhawk defender down the right side and took it to the endline. There she sent a low cross back against the grain to fellow junior Kelsey Fenix who one-timed it into the back of the net. No overtime periods were played and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Wildcat comeback effort was highlighted by the junior class who had both goals and both assists. Kentucky moves to 6-0-3 in the spring exhibition season.

The Cats will host their alumni on April 13-15 for the annual Soccer Alumni Weekend. They will then turn their attention to their spring finale on Saturday, April 21st against the nationally ranked West Virginia Mountaineers. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm and admission is free.
