NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The 25th-ranked Kentucky gymnastics team kicks off its postseason schedule on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET with the Southeastern Conference Championships at Alltel Arena.
The Wildcats open the meet on floor after drawing the apparatus during Friday?s media luncheon. It is the third straight season UK has begun on floor. Last year, the team took seventh place at the championships.
Kentucky is coming off its top three performances of the season, including a season-best 196.200 in a quad-meet victory at Texas Women?s University. During the string, UK has cracked back into the top 25 and has the nation?s 14th-most prolific floor lineup.
Senior Krystle Cook has led a youth-laden lineup that features three freshmen competing in the all-around. Cook has won five meet titles in her last five meets. Sophomore Heather Hite has stepped up and is ranked nationally on both beam (16th) and floor (24th).
Among the freshmen, Emilie Rymer has been the most proficient. She?s cracked 39.000 on the all-around in four straight meets, including a season-best 39.400 at TWU. Fellow freshmen Hillary Ferguson has been a rock on the floor, scoring 9.825 in eight straight meets.
The SEC enters the meet with the nation?s top four ranked teams and has seven teams ranked in the top 25, including UK.
