WALLACE, N.C.?Led by freshman Erica Still?s even-par 72 in the final round and senior Katie Johnson?s stellar overall tournament the Lady Wildcats concluded the Lady Seahawk Invitational in ninth place.
The Blue and White teamed for a final round 314 in the tournaments final 18 holes to hold steady in ninth place. Kentucky fended off 10th place finisher Charleston Southern who finished 10 strokes behind the Wildcats. Kentucky?s five golfers were all within 11 strokes of one another in the final scores.
Still?s 72 on the final day posted her in a tie for 20th place, and also positioning her to lead Kentucky in scoring for the fourth consecutive tournament and sixth of the season. Still has now fired four consecutive final round scores of 76 or lower. Today?s 72 was the third time in her career she has fired a round of even-par. In today?s round only three other golfers carded better rounds than the rookie.
Johnson enjoyed an outstanding tournament placing in a tie for 24th overall and second on the team in scoring and just one stroke off of Still?s team lead. She carded a 78 on the final day of competition becoming the only Blue and White participant to card all three rounds in the 70s.
Junior Beth Felts tied for 50th after firing a third round score of 83. Senior Marissa Muir climbed the leaderboard today with an 81 in the final round placing her in a tie for 53rd. Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats was junior Elizabeth Dotson who shot 83 and tied for 56th.
The host team UNC-Wilmington claimed the tournament crown leading the field by 17 strokes. UNC-Wilmington?s Emily Klein and Carmen Perez-Narbon took individual honors with first and second places respectively.
Kentucky returns to action April 9-10 in the 2007 Indiana Invitational. That will be the final tune-up for the Wildcats prior to the SEC Championships April 20-22.
