Men's Golf

The Kentucky men?s golf team wrapped up play at the third annual Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational today, Mar. 27, with a 13th-place finish. The Wildcats teamed up to post a third-round score of 290 to bring their team score to 876 (301-285-290).

Wake Forest and Baylor finished in a tie for first. Augusta State?s Wallace Booth fired a 65 in the final round to finish first overall with an eight-under par 205 (71-69-65).

Winings carded three birdies in the final round to finish two-over par 73 and bring his three-day total to lead the Cats with a 17th-place finish. Winings? total score through three rounds was 213 (71-69-73). Junior Cale Barr also had three birdies on Tuesday but finished at five-over 76. Barr finished with a three-day total of 228 (78-74-76).

Freshman Alex Volpenhein and junior Brad Doster tied for the best Wildcat round of the day as each recorded a one-over par 72 in the final around. Volpenhein had four birdies, including three straight on the back nine, while Doster had two birdies on the day. Volpenhein finished tied for 55th with a total of 223 (79-72-72) and Doster was 31st with a score of 217 (75-70-72).

Sophomore Ben Fuqua posted his best round of the weekend with a two-over 73 after carding three birdies on the final day of the tournament. The Danville native finished tied for 63rd with a total of 226 (77-76-73).

?We just are not sharp right now,? said UK head coach Brian Craig. ?We did not play as poorly as our finish would indicate but we are a long way from being where we need to be. It is time to go back to the basics and see if we can get ready for the SEC Championship.?
