LEXINGTON, Ky.? The 53rd-ranked University of Kentucky men?s tennis team yielded no points in a perfect day to route both Indiana State and Murray State in a Sunday doubleheader. UK swept both teams 6-0 to improve their record to 10-6, 2-2.
Five Kentucky players picked up two wins on the afternoon en route to an unblemished scorecard for the Blue and White. UK which is on a bye week from Southeastern Conference play enjoyed a stellar afternoon.
Sophomore Bruno Agostinelli led the way with two wins at No. 1 singles. Agostinelli needed three sets to shake Indiana State?s Anton Tsymbalov, but prevailed 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. The Niagara Falls native, picked up win number two on the day when he downed Murray State?s Dymtro Hryhorash, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Junior Marcus Sundh needed only four sets to down his two opponents on the afternoon. He picked up a 6-4, 6-2, win over Indiana State?s Mpiloenhle Migogo and a 6-1, 6-4, victory over the Racers? Hunter Gerlach.
Freshman Roman Ogarkov also enjoyed a thrilling afternoon earning two victories. Ogarkov took a three-set match from Bruno Echer in the first match. Ogarkov jumped out in front in the first set, 6-1, but then yielded a 7-6 (8-6) point in the second. The rookie roared back for a perfect 6-0 third set to take the match. In the second match of the day, Ogarkov needed just two sets to down Jeff Lester 6-3, 6-2.
Sophomores Shane Collins and Kenny Hodge also earned two victories on the afternoon. Collins grabbed wins over Indiana State?s Blake Douglas and Murray State?s Mike Headford. Hodge pounced on Jon Sigurdsson of Indiana State and the Racers? Chris Horton. Also earning wins for the Wildcats today was junior Will Ward at No. 2 singles in the opening match of the day. Freshman Jorge Jorge claimed the final point on the afternoon for the home standing team at No. 4 singles against Murray State.
Kentucky returns to action on Friday, March 23, when they embark on their second SEC roadtrip. Up first is Mississippi State on Friday, with Ole Miss on Sunday the 25th.
