LEXINGTON, Ky.?A pair of breaststrokers will represent the Wildcats at the 2007 NCAA men?s swimming and diving championships this week hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Beginning on Thursday the NCAA Championships begin in the Twin Cities for the second consecutive weekend, this time the men will see who rule the pool.
Representing the Blue and White are the duo of junior Will Vietti and Mickey Malul. Malul will take part in the 100-breast swim on Friday, while Vietti will partake in the 100- and 200-breast.
Vietti was the leading scorer for the Wildcats at the 2007 SEC Championships while being named second-team All-SEC. He placed his name atop the Kentucky record books with a 53.73 time and second-place finish in the 100-breaststroke, the only medal the men won. He followed that performance with a fourth place tap in the 200-breast with a time of 1:57.65. Earlier this season, Vietti took gold in the 200-breast at the Nike Cup Invitational hosted by North Carolina in November.
At the Nike Cup, Malul posted a strong time and finish in his first-place medal win at the Nike Cup in the 100-breast. Malul nabbed the 21st seed in the Championships in the 100-breast. Vietti holds the 12th seed in the 100-breast and the 21st in the 200-breast.
