WINTER SPRINGS, Fla..?Freshman Erica Still became the first women?s golfer this season to place in the top-10 when she finished tied for second today after three rounds in the 32nd annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins College.
The rookie from Waycross, Ga., fired an even par 72 in the third and final round Tuesday to finish in second at five-over-par. She tied Methodist?s Katie Dick for the second, while Nova Southeastern?s Maria Garcia Austt took individual top honors with a score of one-under-par.
?I?m really happy for Erica,? said Coach Stephanie Barker. ?She played two really solid rounds to finish out the tournament, and played consistently. I think it was really fun for her to be in contention going into the final round, and she had a fantastic finish with a solid third round.?
This is the second tournament in a row Still paced the Wildcat scoring and a team-leading fourth of the season. She also leads the team in scoring average, first and final round scoring and leads the team in birdies.
Kentucky held their spot in fifth place for the tournament shooting a three-round total 932 (+68). Their best round was a second round score of 306.
?Everyone had a couple of good rounds,? said Barker. ?I saw a lot of great things from the team this week. Hopefully we can build on this performance and build some confidence for the rest of the season.?
Junior Beth Felts finished 17th overall after shooting an 82 in the final round. Senior Katie Johnson climbed her way to a tie for 18th with a great round of 76 on the final day.
?I thought Katie put together a really solid final round,? said Barker. ?It was a tricky course for putting and getting up and down. She had some great holes today.?
Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats were junior Elizabeth Dotson and senior Marissa Muir. Dotson had her best finish of her young season when she tied for 34th, and Muir added a tie for 52nd.
