LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Kentucky freshman outfielder Brock Wright has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Wright helped pace the Wildcats 4-0 week, batting .455 (5-for-11), and hitting three home runs. The Paducah, Ky. native scored 10 times in the four games, drawing six walks. Wright slugged for a 1.273 percentage and reached base at a .667 clip during the four-game span.
Wright has boosted his season batting average to .400, has now driven in 11 runs, and scored 15 times. For the season, Wright has now hit four home runs in just 25 at bats. Wright has also proved to be a force on the basepaths, stealing two bases in three attempts.
Kentucky Climbs to No. 12 In Collegiate Baseball Top-30
The Kentucky baseball team, off to the best start in the 103-year history of the Wildcat baseball program, has soared as high as No. 12 in the weekly rankings.
Kentucky registered No. 17 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and cracked the Baseball America poll for the first time this season, notching the No. 24 spot.
Kentucky?s 16-0 start to 2007 set several school marks, including the longest win streak in UK history, in addition to the best start in school history.
