LEXINGTON, Ky.–The University of Kentucky women?s golf team will embark on a busy week in the midst of March Madness when they will play in two tournaments in seven days. Up first for the Wildcats is the 32nd annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins College.
The annual tournament which plays tribute to one of the ?First Ladies of Golf,? will be played at the Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Fla. The course is a par 72, 6,089 yards. Thirteen teams will be among the field of contenders: Barry University, California State-San Marcos, Daytona Beach Community College, Florida Southern, Kentucky, Lynn University, Marshall, Methodist College, Nebraska-Omaha, Northern Illinois, Nova Southeastern, Rollins College and Saint Leo University.
The Lady Wildcats are coming off an eighth place finish in the Chrysler Challenge in late February. Kentucky edged Miami for eighth place using a fantastic third round to pull ahead of the Hurricanes.
Kentucky combined for a 313 final round, slipping ahead of Miami by a single stroke to take eighth place. Kentucky finished with a score of 971, and the Hurricanes carded 972.
Freshman Erica Still paced the Blue and White for the third time this season, tying for 19th with a 23-over-par. After struggling in the first round, the Waycross, Ga., native fired back with rounds of 73 and 75 over the next two rounds. The rookie leads the Wildcats in scoring average and is tied with junior Beth Felts for the team lead in tournaments led.
UK will take part in the two-day event beginning on Monday, March 12, with the final round to be played on Tuesday. Complete results of the Wildcats can be found at www.ukathletics.com.
