Men's Golf

The University of Kentucky men?s golf team will return to action this weekend, Mar. 9-11, as it heads to Las Vegas, Nev., for the 2007 Southern Highlands Collegiate Championships. The Wildcats will compete at the par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club over the next three days against some elite competition.

This year?s tournament field includes 15 of the nation?s top teams. No. 1 Florida, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 5 Georgia, No. 7 UCLA, No. 9 UNLV, No. 10 Clemson, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 15 Arizona State, No. 16 Georgia Tech, No. 17 Texas, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 25 Arizona, Kentucky, Minnesota and Washington will all vie for the championship.

The Wildcats send Andy Winings, Brad Doster, Alex Volpenhein, Andrew Stephens and Cale Barr to compete this weekend. Winings and Volpenhein each recorded career-low rounds in the Cats? last outing at the Gator Invitational, Feb 10-11, in Gainesville.

?This is probably the best field of the spring season,? said sixth-year head coach Brian Craig. ?It will be a great opportunity to see where we stack up with the best teams in Division I golf. We are due for our entire team to come together and play up to our capabilities. This would be a good week for that to happen considering the depth of the field.?

The teams will play 18 holes each day, beginning at noon ET.
