GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? The Kentucky men?s golf team posted a 10th-place finish Sunday on the final day of the SunTrust Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at its University Club. The Wildcats tallied a three-round total of 881 (295-293-293) in the event which began the Cats? 2007 spring season.

No. 1 Florida claimed its own tournament with a 10-over-par 850 (280-289-281) while UF junior Manuel Villegas claimed the individual crown with a 6-under-par 204 during the three-day event. Complete results are available at golfstat.com.

?It was a good opportunity for us to shake off the rust of the winter, and I think this tournament served its purpose,? UK head coach Brian Craig said. ?We are certainly going to continue improving. It was a good opportunity for our younger guys to get experience early in the season on a difficult course. It will certainly pay dividends later in the year.?

Andy Winings led the way for the Wildcats, tying for 15th place with a three-round total of 215 (75-67-73), while Alex Volpenhein finished tied for 36th with a 220 (68-75-77).

Brad Doster concluded tournament play in a tie for 48th place with a 223 (76-75-72) and Tyler Wilson tied for 61st place with a 227 (76-76-75). Brian Belden used a strong final round to card a three-round total of 244 (88-83-73) and round out the lineup for the Wildcats.

Kentucky returns to action March 9-11 when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Invitational.
