The University of Kentucky men?s golf team finished in 11th place with a team score of 588 (295-293) after two rounds of play at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Wildcats are 20 strokes behind Wake Forest who leads the 14-team field with a total of 568 (280-288).
The No. 1-ranked Gators are a stroke back in second place at 569, followed by Georgia Southern (570) and Florida State (571) at fourth and fifth, respectively. Coastal Carolina rounds out the top five with a two-round total of 574.
Andy Winings carded a career-low 67 in the second round to stand tied for 11th overall in the individual standings. The sophomore shot a 75 in round one to bring his total to 142. Winings carded four birdies on the day, including three in his final 18 holes.
Freshman Alex Volpenhein also had a career day and is tied for 20th overall through two rounds. Volpenhein had a career low 68 in the opening round, followed by a five-over par 75 in round two to bring his score to 143. The Ft. Mitchell, Ky., native had three birdies in his first round and added two more in his final 18 holes. Brad Doster fired a two-round score of 151 (76-75) to tie for 54th overall. Tyler Wilson and Brian Belden round out the scoring with totals of 152 and 171, respectively.
The three-round tournament wraps up on Sunday, Feb. 11, with the final 18 holes. Tee time is set for 8 a.m.
