LEXINGTON, Ky.?Junior Jenny Bradford?s Kentucky record and career-best time in the 50-freestyle preliminary heat was the highlight of the morning session for Kentucky?s swimmers. Bradford notched a 22.03 time in the final race of the morning session. Her previous best time was 22.09 which she achieved earlier this year at the Nike Cup Invitational.
The Groveport, Ohio, native will take the top seed into the finals heat this evening.
Junior Heather Bradford also eclipsed the top-eight to qualify for the finals in the 50-free. Junior Lauren Willis is assured scoring points for Kentucky as she made the top-16 cut in the 50-free and will swim in tonight?s consolation race. Willis and Heather Bradford?s preliminary times of 22.83 and 23.30, respectively, were also lifetime best swims.
On the men?s side, sophomore Warren Grobbelaar and freshman Eric McGinnis each qualified in the top-16 of the 50-free race in times of 20.14 and 20.36, respectively. The duo?s times were career-best swims.
Action resumes at the Lancaster Aquatic Center tomorrow at 6 p.m. EST. The men and women will compete in finals events in the 500-free, 200-individual medley, 50-free and 200-free relay.
Less than 100 tickets are available for the four day swimming sessions. Deck and bleacher tickets will be available for each day and will cost $20 for two sessions (one day of competition). Wed., Feb 7, preliminary heats will begin at noon with finals set to begin at 6 that night. Thursday-Saturday preliminary events begin at 10 a.m., with the finals taking place at 6.
