LEXINGTON ? The 24th-ranked Kentucky gymnastics team returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum when it welcomes No. 12 LSU for a dual meet.
The Wildcats are coming off a loss on the road to fourth-ranked Alabama while the Tigers are reeling from a defeat at the hands of No. 2 Georgia last week. In each of the last three weeks, UK has been on the verge of posting a season-high score only to register a sub-48 score in the final rotation.
Senior Krystle Cook leads the way for UK, having won three titles on the season, one each on vault, bars and floor. Her 9.9 on the uneven bars last week secured her eighth career title on the apparatus. Sophomore Heather Hite continued her resurgence from offseason surgery, scoring a team-best 9.875 on floor against the Tide. She has led the Wildcats on the floor each of the past two meets.
The duo leads a youthful UK squad that could see as many as three true freshmen in the all-around line up on Friday. Last week, Hillary Ferguson, Emily Green and Emilie Rymer all did so as newcomers filled out 15 of 24 possible lineup spots.
Kentucky is hosting its third meet of the year, having fallen to then-No. 1 Georgia to begin the year before triumphing in a quad meet two weeks ago against No. 17 West Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. It is Father/Daughter Night at Memorial Coliseum as the gymnastics program invites fathers and daughters to come enjoy an evening of UK Gymnastics.
Last season, LSU scored a 195.875-194.675 victory in Baton Rouge, La.
