LEXINGTON, KY ? With the 2006 season in the rear view mirror, the post season awards are beginning to roll in for the Kentucky women?s soccer team.

Senior goalie Anne Ogundele and freshman Giuleana Lopez were both honored as All-Americans by Soccerbuzz. Ogundele was named a second team All-American while Lopez was selected third-team Freshman All-America.

?I feel like all these awards are a true testament to how hard this team worked this season,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?Yes they are individual awards, but not a single one of them would have been possible if it wasn?t for the team effort. I?m extremely proud of all the girls and am pleased that they brought Kentucky soccer back to the forefront of women?s collegiate soccer.?

Ogundele has been the biggest recipient post season accolades. In addition to being named a Soccerbuzz second team All-American, she was also named NSCAA Third Team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America; Ogundele was also selected as a first team All-Great Lakes region performer. Her exploits in the classroom were just as exemplary. She was named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Team as well as being named an ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District performer.

Lopez, who led the team in scoring this season with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists, was also named a Soccerbuzz third team All-Great Lakes region performer as well as a member of the Great Lakes All-Freshman team.

Junior Megan Jones, who ranked second on the team with 19 points (7g, 5a), was placed on Soccerbuzz?s All-Great Lakes region second team. It was her first such appointment to an All-Region team.

In addition to Lopez on Soccerbuzz?s All-Freshman team was rookie defender Katie Fahey, who helped the Wildcats break the school record and tie the SEC single season mark of 14 shutouts.

With the exception of Ogundele, all of the UK award winners will return for the 2007 season.
