LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky gymnastics team signed Colleen Williams from Naperville, Ill., it was announced Monday by Wildcat head coach Hajile ?Mo? Muhammad.
Williams, currently competing for Arena Gymnastics, is one of the nation?s top prospects having earned back-to-back trips to the Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals.
?We?re thrilled to have Colleen joining our program,? Muhammad said. ?She is an outstanding athlete who I think will have a great career at Kentucky. She?s one of the best gymnasts in the country and we can?t wait to have her here.?
Earlier this year, Williams took home 25th place on the all-around, including 13th on vault, at nationals. Prior to that, she placed second on the all-around in the Region V championships while finishing in the top 10 on all four events. She was named to the Region V all-star team that traveled to Augberg, Germany, this past November to teach and train with younger gymnasts.
In 2005, Williams finished fifth at the regional championship before taking 15th place in the national all-around, tying current UK freshman Hillary Ferguson. Williams placed ninth nationally on the vault at the event.
Williams has also been a standout member of the community, coaching recreational and team gymnastics for the Bollingbrook Park District. She has also volunteered for the Naperville Community Schools Early Childhood and Special Needs Pre-School Programs.
