LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Blue squad jumped out to an early 4-2 lead before play was postponed in the fourth inning of the Kentucky Fall World Series, Wednesday night at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
The Black team jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning in an effort to even the series count at two. Freshman Jason Kipnis led off the inning with a single and infielder Mike Brown bunted Kipnis over to second. Senior Sean Coughlin followed, delivering a run-scoring double off the base of the left-centerfield wall to plate Kipnis and give the Black squad the games first run. Anthony Ottrando scored Coughlin two batters later with a sacrifice fly to give the Black an early 2-0 advantage.
The Blue squad answered the Black in the top of the third, beginning with a Ross Hubbard single through the right side of the infield. Junior-college transfer Jonathan Huff, in his first inning in relief of starter Tyler Gatrell, walked Neiko Johnson and allowed a bunt single from Ryan Wilkes to load the bases. Huff balked in Hubbard, scoring the Blue?s first run and Brian Spear hung a sacrifice fly into left field to score Johnson to even the score. Catcher Tyler Howe hit into a fielders choice after Collin Cowgill walked to take a 3-2 lead.
Hubbard kept his hot bat alive in the top half of the fourth, this time driving in fellow freshman Bryan Rose with a two-out double down the right-field line to stretch the Blue lead to 4-2.
The game was postponed in the bottom of the fourth inning and will be resumed on Thursday afternoon.
