Kentucky offensive tackle Hayden Lane is among 148 players from all levels of intercollegiate football that have been named semifinalists for the 2006 Draddy Trophy that is presented to the nation?s top football scholar-athlete.
In addition to the Draddy Trophy, the 148 semifinalists are candidates for National Scholar-Athlete Awards presented by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame. The NFF will announce 15 finalists for the Draddy Trophy on Oct. 26. Each of the 15 finalists will receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship and be invited to the NFF Awards Dinner on Dec. 5 in New York City. The winner of the Draddy Trophy will be announced that evening and will receive a $25,000 post-graduate scholarship.
Lane has been an outstanding student-athlete at Kentucky. He graduated in three years with a 3.95 grade-point average and a double major in Anthropology and Classics (study of Latin and ancient history). He is in his second year of work on his master?s in History, which he anticipates completing in the spring of 2007. Lane plans to earn his PhD in history and is considering a career in Biblical archaeology. He was named first-team Academic All-America in 2005 by the College Sports Information Directors of America and is a candidate for that award again this year. On the field, he has started 24 games during his career.
Kentucky JV to Host Hargrave: Kentucky will play a junior-varsity football game against Hargrave Military Academy on Friday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium.
Admission is free and fans should enter gates 2 and 3 (north side) or 10 and 11 (south side). Free parking is available in the Green Lot (north side of the stadium, facing Bluegrass Community and Technical College). Concessions will be available at the stadium.
