LEXINGTON ? The 17th-ranked Kentucky men?s soccer team hits the road for the second straight contest, traveling to face Conference USA rival Marshall on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Sam Hood Field.
The Wildcats, who jumped up one spot in the latest NSCAA rankings, are 9-4-1 on the year, 2-2 in conference play, after dropping a 1-0 overtime decision to UAB in Birmingham on Saturday. The loss was the third this year for UK in overtime.
Marshall is coming off a stunning 1-0 upset of No. 11 South Carolina at home on Saturday. The win was the first for the Thundering Herd in league play.
The two teams have a history that goes back to the beginning of UK?s program in 1991. In fact, Marshall is the only team Kentucky has faced every year since the inception of men?s soccer as a varsity sport.
The Wildcats own a 10-4-2 overall advantage in the series. However, because of a scheduling quirk and the changing of conferences, four of the last five meetings have been in Lexington. The last time the two met in Huntingdon, W.Va., was in 1993 and UK came away with a 1-0 overtime win. Three of the last four meetings have ended in overtime.
Before becoming C-USA rivals, the two battled annually in the Mid-American Conference for a decade.
