ATHENS, GA ? The Kentucky women?s soccer team (8-6-2, 3-3-1) saw their four match unbeaten streak come to an end as they dropped a 1-0 affair to the Georgia Bulldogs (8-7-0, 3-5-0).
Carrie Patterson broke the scoreless tie with 8:54 left in the match when she took a lead pass from Randi-Lynn Russo and put the ball inside the far left post just out of the reach of Wildcat goalie Anne Ogundele for the 1-0 lead.
In addition to breaking the tie, the goal also ended Ogundele?s scoreless minute streak at 506:06, her longest streak of the season.
?We didn?t take care of the ball and Georgia did,? said Kentucky head coach Warren Lipka. ?We need to learn to put back-to-back games together.?
The Wildcats created the first legitimate scoring threat in the 59th minute when Megan Jones centered up a shot from 25 yards out that Georgia goalie Michelle Betos tipped just enough to deflect off the crossbar.
The Bulldogs had their first real threat in the 76th minute off a direct kick from just over 30 yards out, but Catherine Bruce?s shot sailed just high and over the goal.
The two teams fought to a scoreless tie through the first half with the shots even at 5-5. Neither squad was able to mount any serious scoring threats despite five corner kicks (UGA 4, UK 1) in the half.
The loss dropped the Wildcats? all-time record against Georgia to 4-7-2.
The Wildcats return home on Friday for a split weekend as they host the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The team will then hit the road on Saturday for a road match at Ole Miss on Sunday.
