Men's Golf

The University of Kentucky men?s golf team defeated Louisville in a playoff today, Oct. 8, as the Wildcats took home the team title at Indiana?s Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind. The Cats and Cardinals finished with identical scores of 886 to force the playoff which the Wildcats won on the second hole.

?We had a wild finish and we played very well on the last five or six holes to catch an extremely talented and gutsy Louisville team,? said UK head coach Brian Craig. ?Every single guy played beautifully in the playoff, particularly Brian Belden and Andy Winings. They both just played rock solid golf so it was a good win and an exciting finish. My hat?s off to the Louisville Cardinals who really have a terrific team. We were fortunate to come out on top this time.?

Sophomore Andy Winings turned in the best finish of his collegiate career with a second-place overall finish. Winings carded a three-round total of 216 (70-71-75) to finish at one-over par and just two strokes behind UofL?s Derek Fathauer who won medalist honors with a score of 214 (66-73-75).
