LEXINGTON ? After scoring the game-winning goal in Kentucky?s thrilling 1-0 victory over sixth-ranked South Carolina on Sunday, striker Riley O?Neill has been named the National Player of the Week by the NSCAA. In the 106th minute, less than five minutes from the game being ruled a draw, O?Neill took a service near the corner of the 18-yard box, chested it down and used one touch to beat his defender towards the endline. From there, O?Neill fired on goal at a sharp angle and beat the goalkeeper to the near post, securing one of the biggest wins in UK history. The goal was O?Neill?s school-record-tying fourth game winner this year. He ranks fourth nationally in goals (12) and points (27). O?Neill was also named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week on Tuesday and was tabbed the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. O?Neill and Kentucky return to action Saturday when they travel to No. 1 SMU for an 8 p.m. kickoff. Last year, the Mustangs beat the Wildcats on a goal with three seconds remaining in regulation.
