LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky soccer team, fresh off a 1-0 victory over sixth-ranked South Carolina, has climbed all the way to No. 13 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, it was announced Tuesday.
The ranking is the highest in school history, bettering a No. 14 ranking UK held just three weeks ago. The Wildcats must now test their poll position on the road against consensus No. 1 SMU on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The game will be a battle of two heavyweights. Kentucky and SMU, a final four participant a year ago, are the only two teams in the nation to rank in the top 10 in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
Last year, the Mustangs escaped Lexington with a 2-1 win after scoring the game-winner with three seconds remaining in regulation.
