Cross Country

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky cross country squads, fresh off impressive showings at the Old Timer?s Classic, return to action Saturday when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, home of the 2006 NCAA Southeast Regional.

The men?s 8K race begins at 9:30 a.m. ET Saturday, while the women?s 5K race commences at 10:15 a.m. ET. Complete meet information is available at www.alltraxtiming.com.

?This meet will be a great opportunity for us to have a dry run at the NCAA Regional course,? said Pat Tyson, assistant coach for distance and cross country. ?There are a lot of really good teams competing in this meet. It will be interesting to see how we stack up against them. Also, we are a bit healthier this week and we are going to run eight women and seven men.?

In UK?s last outing at the Old Timer?s Classic, four UK women finished in the race?s top 10 led by sophomore Taylor Miller?s (Owensboro, Ky.) personal-best 5K time of 17:37. Miller?s time ranks as the fourth-best 5K time of the season in the SEC. Miller finished second in the race, followed by senior Georganne Way (Lilitz, Pa.), who finished fourth with a time of 17:54. Four Wildcat women posted their personal-best 5K times in leading the Cats to a first-place team finish.

On the men?s side, junior Andre Silva (Centereach, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 5-mile race with a time of 26:07 to lead Kentucky to a second-place team finish behind Eastern Kentucky. Following Silva, four UK runners finished consecutively with transfer John Thompson (Owensboro, Ky.) leading that group and finishing 12th with a 26:58.

The meet marks the last of the Cats? three regular-season meets to be held within the Bluegrass State, as Kentucky already has competed at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational and the Western Kentucky Old Timer?s Classic this season. The Wildcats conclude their 2006 regular-season slate on Oct. 14 at the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Complete results and a recap of Saturday?s meet will be available at ukathletics.com.
