Making a positive impact in the community is a cornerstone of what 2006 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year John Cohen?s philosophy is in running the Kentucky baseball program.

?It is important for our players to get out in the community and make a positive impact,? Cohen said. ?We stress to our kids to get involved and they take community service very seriously. As student-athletes, they have the chance to positively affect the lives of children and that is not an opportunity I want any of our players to miss out on.?

Most recently, Cohen and freshmen Anthony Ottrando and Duran Ferguson took part in the Fayette County Public School?s back-to-school fundraiser. The three took part in classes at Cassidy Elementary and had the opportunity to share some personal academic and athletic achievements to the children.

The three Wildcat?s were not the only adults taking part in the fundraiser, as 51 community and business leaders had the chance to go ?back-to-school? for a day and share their experiences with the students.

Earlier in the semester, returning players attended the grand opening of the Children?s Miracle League. The league is organized to give children with handicaps the opportunity to play baseball in a safe environment.
