The All-Tournament team for the 2006 Kentucky Classic has been announced. Kentucky middle blocker Nicole Britenriker took home Most Valuable Player honors after leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 record and the tournament title.
The junior middle blocker led the Wildcats with 4.30 kills per game and tied teammate Queen Nzenwa for the lead with 1.00 blocks per game. Britenriker was one dig shy of a double-double, finishing with 16 kills and nine digs to go along with four block assists in the win over Georgia Tech. She hit .556 in the tournament-opening match against Villanova and had 12 kills, four digs and three blocks in that contest. Britenriker added 15 kills, four digs, three blocks and an ace in the win over Toledo. For the tournament, Britenriker hit .367 with 43 kills, 17 digs, 10 blocks and four assists.
Joining Britenriker on the all-tournament team are Kentucky libero Jenni Casper and setter Sarah Rumely. The freshman floor general dished out 136 assists for 13.60 per game. Rumely also had 18 kills and 21 digs over the three-game span. She was one kill shy of a triple double with nine kills, a career-high 12 digs and 56 assists in the win over Georgia Tech. Rumely also had eight service aces and six total blocks in the tournament.
Casper led the Cats in digs in every match and had a tourney-high 17 in the final match against Georgia Tech. She had a pair of aces and dished out 10 assists, as well. Casper finished with 45 digs for an average of 4.50 per game to lead the Wildcats.
Tournament runner-up Georgia Tech had a pair of players on the all-tourney team in setter Allie Niekamp and middle blocker Ulrike Stegemann. Toledo outside hitter Sarah Kreher and Villanova outside hitter Kacy Sellers were also named.
