CHARLESTON, S.C.— Freshman Erica Still (Waycross, Ga.) is the story after 36 holes of completion at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston Monday. Kentucky is in 18th place after scoring a 622 two-round total.
Still paced the team in both rounds of action today. She led-off with an impressive even-par round (72) in her first collegiate round. The Wildcat bogeyed on her second hole of play, but responded with back-to-back birdies. She held a one-under-par score until the eighth hole. The gritty performance from the freshman placed her eighth overall on the individual leader-board.
In round two, she birdied her second hole and carried a one-under-par score until the ninth hole. Still finished the round at three-over-par (75), earning a total two-round score of 147. Her score placed her 19th on the individual leader-board.
Still?s classmate, Jessica Smith (Louisville, Ky.) carded a five-over-par (77) in her Wildcat debut in round one. The freshmen duo was the top scorers for Kentucky after round one.
The University of North Carolina and Louisiana State are tied for first place with scores of three-over-par (579). The Tar Heels? Lauren Hunt and Florida State?s Whitney Brummett hold the best two-round total at four-under-par.
Kentucky takes the links for the third round of the Cougar Classic with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
