ATHENS, Ga.? The University of Kentucky men?s tennis team opens its fall slate at the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia, September 8-11.

Three sophomore Wildcats, led by 2006 SEC Freshman of the Year Bruno Agostinelli, will travel to Athens to participate in the event which entertains players from 35 different schools. Joining Agostinelli are Greg Anderson and Shane Collins.

The tournament will be comprised of three singles divisions and two doubles divisions. The top two singles divisions will play a 64-man draw, while the Division III singles will feature a 60-man bracket.

Georgia?s Southern Intercollegiate is the South?s oldest recurring tournament, originating in 1968.

Agostinelli capped his freshman campaign with a 25-19 overall record. He wrapped up the season ranked as the fourth-highest singles player in his class. His fall action included a win at the A2 Singles Flight bracket at the Middle Tennessee State Fall Invitational.

Anderson earned a 6-14 overall record in his first season of action as a Wildcat. The Southern Intercollegiate is Anderson?s first fall action of his career.

Collins started his freshman season with five consecutive doubles victories in fall-tournament play. He teamed with teammate Marcus Sundh to capture the Flight A Doubles bracket at the Louisville Fall Invitational. Collins concluded the spring season with an overall singles record of 5-10.

With the fall season opening this weekend, head coach Dennis Emery announces his 2006-07 schedule. The fall season features participation in 13 tournaments, while spring match-ups include home dates with Baylor and Indiana.

Emery and his team will host the Region III indoors Oct. 20-23 and the SEC Indoors Jan. 19-22. Five SEC foes will play in Lexington throughout the spring season (Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina).
