SEC Week 1 Women’s Release:
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior Georganne Way (Lilitz, Pa.) was named the Southeastern Conference Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Wednesday.
Way posted a personal-best 2-mile time of 11:15.4 en route to a first-place finish at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational last Friday. She picked up the first victory of her collegiate career in leading four UK runners that finished in the meet’s top five. Her first-place finish helped UK soundly defeat Eastern Kentucky and Marshall.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Georganne,” said Pat Tyson, assistant coach for distance and cross country. “In the short time that I have been here, I’ve noticed her focus and committment to the team. She is an unselfish team leader with outstanding character. She is all about what is best for the team.”
Way and the Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to compete in the Old Timer’s Classic.
