LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The good news continues to filter in for the Kentucky baseball program during the offseason, as outfielder Antone DeJesus was named to the prestigious Cape Cod Summer Baseball League All-Star Game.

The Kentucky centerfielder is participating in the Cape Cod League for the first time this season and has established himself as one of the top talents in college baseball. The junior to-be from Amherst, Ohio, has tallied a .234 batting average in 27 games.

DeJesus, also well known for his defensive prowess, has made a name for himself as one of the most disciplined hitters in the college game, drawing a team-high 19 walks which translated into an excellent .405 on-base percentage. DeJesus is also a blur on the base paths, stealing five bases in five attempts.

A record total of 198 Cape League players were on Major League Baseball rosters last year, including Boston Red Sox catcher and team captain Jason Varitek (Hyannis ’91 & ’93), slugging infielders Brian Roberts (Chatham ’98) of the Baltimore Orioles and Nomar Garciaparra (Orleans ’93) of the Los Angeles Dodgers, outfielders Lance Berkman (Wareham ?96) of the Houston Astros and Jason Bay (Chatham ?99) of the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitchers Mark Mulder (Bourne ’97) of the St. Louis Cardinals and Barry Zito (Wareham ’97-’98) of the Oakland A’s.
