University of Kentucky sixth-year head coach Brian Craig has released the 2006-07 schedule for his men?s golf team. The upcoming slate will challenge a squad that returns four players from last season?s school record fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
?We have put together a first-rate tournament schedule that will take us from Japan to Las Vegas and many great locations in between,? said Craig. ?Most importantly, with this schedule we will have the opportunity to effectively prepare our team for the post-season by playing against the best teams in Division I on a variety of championship level courses.?
The Wildcats open the season early on Sept. 5-7 as they travel overseas to Tanagura, Japan, for the Topy Cup. Kentucky will then participate in The NCAA Preview for the third straight year, Oct. 2-4, as it heads to Williamsburg, Va., for the three-day event. The Cats? fall schedule continues Oct. 7-8 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., before making a trip to The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Oct. 14-15, in Jonesborough, Tenn. UK wraps up the fall season Oct. 22-24 at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
The spring schedule kicks off on Feb. 10-11 when UK travels to the Gator Invitational, followed by a three-day tournament, Mar. 9-11, in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Southern Highlands Collegiate. Kentucky returns to the links the following weekend, Mar. 17-18, at the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The spring regular season wraps up Mar. 25-27 as the Cats head to Awendaw, S.C., for the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
The Southeastern Conference championships are set for Apr. 20-22 at Seaside Golf Course in Sea Island, Ga., where the Cats took home the title in 2004-05. Post-season play continues May 17-19 with the NCAA Central Region which will be held at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove, Ill., while the NCAA Championships are slated for May 30-June 2 in Williamsburg, Va.
