PALO ALTO, Calif. ? One day after upsetting New Mexico?s fourth-seeded duo Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek, Kentucky?s team of junior Kim Coventry and freshman Carolina Escamilla fell to South Florida?s Gabriela Duch and Neyssa Etienne 6-1, 6-0 Friday in the round of 16 of the NCAA doubles championship in Stanford, Calif. Coventry and Escamilla, both second team All-SEC selections, finished the season with 11 wins as a tandem.
Duch and Etienne, the No. 9 team in the nation, broke serve in the first game of the first set and never looked back. Duch and Etienne advance to the quarterfinals where they will play either USC?s Dianne Matias and Carine Vermeulen or Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter of Fresno State on Saturday.
