LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky women?s golf team has signed standout British golfer Emma Sheffield (Newark, England) to its 2006 roster, coach Stephanie Barker announced Tuesday.
Sheffield was selected as a member of England?s Elite Under 21 squad and helped her team claim the 2005 European Junior Team Championship. She qualified to play in the British Ladies Stroke Play Championship the past three years, making the cut for the Match Play Championship in 2005.
?I am really excited to have Emma join our team,? Barker said. ?She has a lot of international experience over the past few years and is really considered to be one of the top golfers in England. She seems like the type of player who will be a good fit for our program. She is a great person, a good student and I think she will become a great leader for our team.?
Sheffield was selected as one of four players in England to represent England?s Elite Under 18 Squad in 2003 and 2004. She captured the 2003 Lincolnshire Schools Championship, and also was the Nottinghamshire County Under 18 Champion. Sheffield was the 2002 English Schools Champion and the Four Counties Champion.
Sheffield joins fellow newcomers Krista Burton (Russell Springs, Ky.), Jessica Smith (Louisville, Ky.) and Erica Still (Waycross, Ga.) in the 2006 signing class.
