LEXINGTON ? Kentucky baseball standouts Collin Cowgill and Greg Dombrowski have been named first-team Academic All-District for District IV, it was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Cowgill, a sophomore from Lexington, has been the Wildcats most improved offensive player this year. He is batting a robust .326 with 12 home runs and 47 runs batted in. He is one of just 10 players in the Southeastern Conference with at least 10 home runs and 10 doubles. Off the field, Cowgill is a communications major. Dombrowski, a sophomore from Rome, N.Y., is a leading candidate for SEC Pitcher of the Year. He leads the conference in wins with nine and in earned-run average at 2.28. The nine wins are fourth most in UK history and the most since 1987. By earning a spot on the all-district team, both Cowgill and Dombrowski are eligible for Academic All-America honors. Voting for that begins on May 16.
