ST. SIMON?S ISLAND, Ga. ? The Kentucky men?s golf team fired a final round 287 Sunday to finish the Southeastern Conference Championships in fourth place at the Sea Island Golf Club?s Seaside Course. The Wildcats concluded tournament play with a three-round total of 855 (292-276-287).

No. 1 Georgia claimed its 26th SEC title by carding a 13-under-par 827 (276-282-269), while No. 3 Florida finished one stroke back with an 828 (285-274-269). The Gators finished 21 strokes ahead of the third-place finisher Alabama. Florida?s Brett Stegmaier captured the individual crown with a 5-under-par 205 (68-70-67), while Georgia?s Brian Harmon was one stroke behind with a 206 (67-73-66).

?This was a very respectable finish for us with the youth of this team,? UK head coach Brian Craig said. ?This will lay a good foundation for future years and hopefully another SEC Championship. We are playing well right now and are ready for [NCAA] regionals.?

Senior Matt Kohn (Longwood, Fla.) and sophomore Brad Doster (Winter Park, Fla.) each tied for 14th place with three-round totals of 213 to lead the way for the Wildcats.

?I am especially proud of Brad Doster,? Craig said. ?He got off to a really rough start, but battled back to have a great tournament and lead us today like he has done all spring.?

Junior Tyler Wilson (Lexington, Ky.) tied for 20th place with a 215 (70-70-75), while freshman Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wisc.) concluded play in a tie for 23rd place with a 216 (73-70-73). Freshman Andy Winings (Brownsburg, Ind.) finished in 56th place with a 229 (77-74-78) to round out the tournament field for the Wildcats.

Kentucky will now prepare for the NCAA Central Regional to be held May 18-20 in Chardon, Ohio.
